- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
½ cup unsalted butter, softened - 1 cup milk
3 large eggs - 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Creaming together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in another bowl.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the creamed mixture alternately with the milk.
- Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.
- Combine sliced strawberries with a bit of sugar and let them sit for about 30 minutes.
- Beat heavy cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form.
- Once the cakes are cool, assemble by placing one layer on a serving plate and adding strawberry filling and whipped cream.
- Stack the second layer on top and frost with whipped cream.
- Decorate with additional strawberries and serve.
